STUDENT BLOG ENTRIES FROM ISABEL AND ALICIA
Today we took the bus from College Saint Michel to Rennes, and went to the Les Champs Libres museum. When we got there we immediately went into a small room with a projector, and our guide, Batiste, gave a presentation on the human voice. He showed us a model of what the voice box looked like, and demonstrated how the vocal chords function- you can only talk when they are closed! There was a video of actual human vocal chords in action, and we did some small experiments on how you can make your voice a deeper or higher pitch. After the presentation, we went through the exhibit, which was composed of hands on activities testing the voice, how it works, and how we respond. Some favorite activities were the game show, where a speaker played a celebrity's voice and the "contestants" had to choose from multiple choice answers of who was singing. During one round, Mme. Eloré got 12/12! Another popular choice was the choir booth, where you speak/sing into a microphone and a choir matches your voice behind you. There are dials which allow the user to alter the "choir" from major to minor key, and to have either women or men singing- or both. After the exhibit in the voice we took a quick spin through "Brittany through the ages" where there were walls covered in different pictures from all over Bretagne, starting from early on until the modern day. We are our picnic lunch just outside the museum, and I got to try chicken flavored chips, which really just tasted like pepper chips. (Isabel)

Just couldn't resist a quick stop at the boulangerie!

Not the bean, but the same idea....
We visited the oldest part of Rennes. It was beautiful and it's nothing like I've seen in Chicago. We went to the cathedral and it was amazing. There was a huge door way and the patterns on the door were really cool. The glass murals in the cathedral were beautiful as well. What interests me the most was that this was from the medieval times and it's surprising how well kept it is after they have had 2 fires in Rennes like the Chicago Fire. Rennes is such a beautiful place and it's full of history, but there is more to discover. (Alicia)
